Psychomotor Strategies for Strengthening Emotional Regulation in Early Childhood Education
Publicado
2026-07-22

Emotional regulation in early childhood is crucial for holistic development and social interaction. The objective of this study was to compare emotional regulation in children aged 3 to 5 years in the Early Childhood Education program at the Oxford Educational Unit after the implementation of a psychomotor strategies program. A mixed-methods approach was adopted with a descriptive quasi-experimental design using pretest-posttest measurements. The findings revealed a reduction in the initial level of emotional regulation from 61% to 18%, while the acquired level increased from 8% to 30%. Psychomotor strategies constitute a relevant resource for emotional regulation. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon test confirmed statistically significant differences with a moderate-to-large effect size. Thematic analysis also revealed substantial improvements in four dimensions: emotional recognition, emotional expression, self-control, and autonomous regulation. In conclusion, the applied psychomotor strategies significantly improved the children's emotional regulation.
